Oh IDK abt that one..sure ud have thot it mighta retained a viking influence..guess its cos the English ruled it for so long...a bit like Madras has a very strong British underlying culture..despite throwing off the hated tyranny of Imperialism in 1947.We of glas cau ask the same as to why our 2nd city of empire retains a prominent Celtic influence (not the football team!)..guess it was the successive incursions of the dial riatha in 500AD and then the forced immigration in the 19th cent due to economic/political influences..I'd have 2 ask Fr. Ted..but he's ded at moment.
