What did John Adams do for the Federalists/Anti-federalists?

John Adams had many events take place such as the XYZ Affair, The Alien and Sedition Acts, and The Quasi War.Out of these and other events, which supported the Federalists and which supported the Anti-federalists. For example, didn't the XYZ Affair support the Anti-federalists? Also, if you could explain why if you know. Thanks
