Can my landlord legally evict me for late rent that I went into the office to pay 3 days late?

I went into my apartment complex leasing office and let them know i would be 3 days late on my rent and they told me it was okay. Then they sent me to evictions and told me i had 3 days to vacate or pay and when I got paid I went to pay them and they said the could not except my rent that I needed to move out as soon as possible and told me the sooner the better. Can they legally do this to people and my lease wasn't even up.
