I can't guarantee you that he's going to see your side of the story, but I do agree with you. Pretty much everybody gets cold feet about forever at some point. It's a big deal and it can be scary. If he really is having a hard time with the break up like you are he will probably come back. Just give him some time and if he is willing to be friends with you - do it. Good luck.
