I would suggest you start by saying hello. Get to know him as a friend. Don't be anyone you are not. You can ask him over to your house for pizza night. You can ask him and a group of friends. Get to know him and ask him questions about his hobbies and his family. Once you get to know him, you will either hit it off or just be friends. Take things slowly and you will be fine.
